Welcome to the studio page for Rachel McGuire! I'm a Pittsburgh violist and teacher. I teach orchestra classes at North Allegheny Intermediate High School and private violin and viola lessons at Brighton Music Center in the North Hills.
I began playing viola in my public school music program in Iowa City, Iowa and have been committed to music education ever since! My bachelor's degree is in Music Education and Viola Performance from the University of Iowa where I studied with William Preucil, Sr. and my master's degree is in Music Education from Western Washington University where I studied with Eric Keen. I've spent the past twelve years teaching with the Palo Alto Unified School District in Palo Alto, CA and before that taught in public schools, private schools, individual and small-group lessons, youth symphonies, as well as coaching chamber ensembles and sectionals in Washington and Iowa.
In addition to teaching, I'm an active performer, most recently in California's San Francisco Bay Area where I played with the Santa Cruz Symphony, West Bay Opera, and the California Pops Orchestra along with lots of freelance work and chamber music. I moved to Pittsburgh in the summer of 2019 and I'm looking forward to jumping into the Pittsburgh music scene!
